How Does the ATS Match Score Work?
The match score tells you how well your optimized resume aligns with a specific job description. It's shown as a number from 0 to 100.
What the score measures
Pronto analyzes several factors:
- Keyword coverage — Are the key terms from the job description present in your resume?
- Skills alignment — Do your listed skills match what the role requires?
- Experience relevance — Does your work history demonstrate the right kind of experience?
- Seniority match — Is the level of experience on your resume appropriate for the role?
What's a good score?
Score | What it means |
|---|---|
85–100 | Strong match — apply with confidence |
70–84 | Good match — minor gaps, still worth applying |
50–69 | Moderate match — consider if this role is right for you |
Below 50 | Weak match — significant gaps between your background and the role |
A score of 75 or above is generally solid for most applications.
How to improve your score
- Use the full job description, not just the title or a summary
- Make sure your resume lists the specific tools, skills, and technologies mentioned in the JD
- If you have relevant experience that isn't showing up, add it explicitly
Does a higher score guarantee interviews?
No — but it significantly improves your chances of passing automated filters. Recruiters still make the final call. The score is a signal, not a guarantee.
Pro tip
Run your resume against the job description before optimizing to see your baseline score. Then optimize and see the improvement. It's satisfying, and it shows you exactly what changed.
